Overview

Established in 2017, WA DEFENCE REVIEW set an important historical precedent by launching the first West Australian-based platform to support Australia’s defence sector across the spectrum of politics, government, defence, industry and academia. Giving a much-needed voice to WA’s expanding defence network, WA DEFENCE REVIEW provides a valuable professional resource as an independent authority on Australian defence.

Annual Publication: WA Defence Review’s flagship product is its Annual Publication, launched in 2018 as Western Australia’s first dedicated defence publication. Published once a year, it analyses and interprets developments in Australian defence from a Western Australian perspective, covering local, national and international issues, with particular attention to the security of Northern Australia and Indian Ocean geopolitics. It is distributed Australia-wide both online and in print, reaching defence and industry specialists at key industry events. It features high-profile interviews with, and contributions from, senior Defence and industry officials across WA, Australia and the Indo-Pacific region, and has grown to become one of the largest publications of its kind in the country.

Video Channel: WA Defence Review hosts its own video channel featuring original content relevant to the future of Australian defence, including interviews with prominent defence officials and special guests, as well as highlights from industry events. It serves as a visual extension of the organisation’s editorial work, making expert commentary and event coverage accessible to a wider audience.

Events Program: The events program is built around facilitating industry collaboration and connecting decision-makers. It comprises four main categories: Strategy and Defence and Industry Dialogue, a Keynote Speaker Program, Industry Site Visits, and Exclusive Cocktail Functions. Events range from a Chatham House-style policy discussion forum on Australia’s defence sector development to exclusive, invite-only breakfasts, luncheons and dinners that bring together senior representatives from politics, government, Defence, industry and academia. WA Defence Review also partners as a media sponsor for related industry exhibitions, trade shows and gala events.

Policy Blog: The Pragmatist is WA Defence Review’s dedicated policy blog. It publishes original content on a wide range of topics related to industry and technology, critical infrastructure and resources, geopolitics and national security, with contributions drawn from professionals across politics, government, Defence, industry and academia.
