Radiation Professionals Australia

Educational and Training Institution Small and Medium Enterprises

Overview

RPA has more than 25 years of experience providing specialist radiation, hazardous materials and decontamination services across Australia, supporting complex and highly regulated industries where safety, compliance and operational certainty are critical. This experience has built capabilities directly relevant to the defence industry, including radiation safety and licensing, hazardous materials management, contamination assessment and remediation, specialist monitoring, waste management, and the delivery of specialist radiation and hazardous materials training to Defence personnel.

RPA has developed particular expertise in solving unusual or technically challenging problems where conventional approaches are not sufficient. Alongside its consultancy services, RPA designs and deploys purpose-built technologies for remote radiation detection, internal inspection, contamination characterisation, decontamination and contaminated water treatment. Many of these systems have been developed for demanding offshore, maritime and industrial environments, making the capability readily transferable to Defence assets, facilities and operations.

As an Australian-owned specialist business, RPA continues to expand its engagement with the defence sector, combining experienced personnel, practical field capability and locally developed technology. This includes supporting the development of specialist capability within Defence through practical, technically focused training, while providing responsive solutions that reduce personnel exposure, improve operational efficiency and support safe, informed decision-making.

Capabilities

RPA provides specialist radiation and hazardous materials capability that can support Defence across training, preparedness, planning and operational activities.

Our key capabilities include specialist training of Defence personnel; expert radiation and hazardous materials advice; provision of specialist detection, monitoring and response equipment; supply and management of radioactive sources; and technical support for scenario development and planning. RPA can also develop or adapt equipment and monitoring solutions for unusual or mission-specific requirements.

Recent Defence support has included providing radioactive sources for field training exercises, enabling personnel to undertake realistic detection, identification and response scenarios. RPA has also provided specialist training and technical support to Defence personnel.

RPA can support the development of realistic radiological and hazardous materials scenarios, advise on appropriate monitoring and response strategies, provide specialist equipment and sources for exercises, and supply experienced personnel to support exercise delivery.

This combination of technical expertise, training, equipment and practical field experience allows RPA to support Defence from initial scenario planning and capability development through to field exercises and operational requirements.
