Kimberley Marine Support Base
Overview
Kimberley Marine Support Base (KMSB) provides a strategically located, purpose built marine logistics facility within the Port of Broome, offering Defence a credible northern operating and sustainment option in Western Australia.
Designed as a modern, multi user facility, KMSB supports a broad range of maritime and logistics activities relevant to defence operations across the Kimberley region.
At the core of the facility is a large floating wharf and bi-directional causeway, delivering a stable and predictable interface for vessel berthing, cargo handling and personnel movements. The facility is configured to support continuous 24/7 operations, enabling Defence activities to be planned and executed without operational downtime. This supports logistics, maintenance, training and mobilisation activities within a controlled port environment.
KMSB is equipped for high load and complex cargo operations, including heavy lift, roll on/roll off capability and the handling of containerised, bulk, break bulk and oversized equipment. Integrated diesel bunkering, potable water services and quayside support provide practical sustainment capability for defence vessels and supporting contractors operating from the facility.
The wharf is supported by more than 20 hectares of landside logistics and laydown space, to enable just in time staging, equipment storage and coordinated project mobilisation. This integrated port and land capability allows Defence to consolidate logistics activities within a single precinct. With proximity to key northern maritime routes, access to a skilled regional workforce KMSB strengthens sovereign capability by providing Defence with a resilient, scalable logistics base in northern Western Australia.
